Lucassie Ikkidluak

Lucassie Ikkidluak was born in 1949 and started to carve in 1967. He is from Kimmirut, Nunavut but now lives in Iqaluit.

Lucassie carves stone muskoxen prolifically, for which he is most known for, despite there being no muskoxen on Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin Island). His musk ox sculpture often have carved ivory horns and detailed hair.

A January 20, 2014 article featured Lucassie’s work as a leader in a men’s group advocating for talking about suicide and suicide prevention, an issue that permeates northern communities.

Lucassie’s work has been in several exhibitions including at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum in Santa Fe, and the Canadian Guild of Crafts Quebec. Public collections that house his art are the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Inuit Cultural Institute, and others.
