Art Sterritt

Art Sterritt is a Gitxsan artist and political leader also known by the name Myanxa. He studied at the ‘Ksan Historical Village’s Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Art, beginning as a jeweler, carver, and printmaker. Sterritt loves working with wood and has carved more than 30 totem poles in his fifty-year career. His totem poles are found in museums across Canada. Sterritt turned to involving himself with politics in his later life, including twelve years spent as the executive director of Coastal First Nations before his retirement.
