Greg Harland Arnold
Canadian, 1916 - 1968
Greg Arnold (1916-1968, b. Meota, Saskatchewan – d. Calgary)
Greg Arnold was a Saskatchewan painter, printmaker, and sculptor. After the Second World War, he enrolled as an art student at the Provincial Institute of Technology of Art. Graduating in 1950, he worked as a commercial designer while continuing to further his education. A trip to Italy inspired him to take up abstract forms in watercolour paintings, drawings, and plywood constructions. Arnold took up the position as an instructor at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art in 1962 and taught advertising art, design, composition, and crafts until 1968.
Arnold was an active member of Calgary’s shifting art scene in the 1960s. He was president of the Alberta Society of Artists for 1962 to 1963. His work has been exhibited across Canada, notably in the First Biennial of Canadian Painting (1955) and a retrospective of his works at the Triangle Gallery (1989).
