Beany Dootjes
Lethbridge-based artist Beany Dootjes completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge in 2002. Dootjes looks into a variety of media, surfaces, and presentation formats to capture the enjoyment of her everyday experiences. A frequent subject of her artistic practice is her urban garden, which provides a practical supply of grown items while serving as an aesthetic experience. This interest in gardening stems from a childhood spent on rural properties with her Dutch immigrant parents.
Dootjes has shown in group and solo shows across Southern Alberta. In 2014, the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery exhibition featured her work alongside other local artists who had responded to Pop Art examples within the art collection.
