John Eaton
Canadian, 1942 - 2020
John Eaton (1942-2020, b. Ottawa – d. Rupert, Quebec)
Painter John Eaton travelled Europe after graduating from high school, notably working as an apprentice to a marble sculptor in Florence, Italy for a time. From 1961 to 1967 he maintained a studio in New York while teaching drawing at the Waldorf School of Adelphi University. He illustrated the 1965 book “Fairy Tales” by E.E. Cummings and in 1967 assisted with murals found in the New York Pan-Am building. He spent the majority of his adult life working from a studio in Quebec where he painted “visual poems” on themes of nature, animals, and humanity. Eaton’s work is found in collections around the world and garnered him an honourable mention at the 1992 La Biennale de Paris.
