Thomas Sivuraq

Canadian, 1935 - 2007

Thomas Sivuraq is a sculptor from Qamani’tuaq (Baker Lake), NU. Born in 1941 on the southern side of Baker Lake, Sivuraq taught himself to carve the basalt stone in the Qamani’tuaq area in 1960. His half-brother, Peter Sevoga, is also a sculptor, and Sivuraq is married to Nancy Kangeryuaq, a graphic artist and printmaker. Best known for his skill in showing movement in his carved figures, Sivuraq’s sculpture has been featured across Canada.
