Luke Iksiktaaryuk

1909 - 1977

Iksiktaaryuk was born in near the Kazan River in Nunavut and lived in Qamani’tuaq since the 1950s. While Luke is most known for his distinctive antler carvings often depicting elongated human figures and drum dances, he also made prints and drawings. His prints were included in many Baker Lake Print Collections in the 1970s.

Iksiktaaryuk’s artwork has been in exhibitions at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario, McMaster Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver, to name a few. His work is widely found in public collections across the country.
