Andie Wicherts

Canadian, 1930 - 2019

Andie Wicherts was a printmaker who worked in graphic arts, intaglio, relief printing, monotypes, and woven prints. Many of these prints show an interest in geography, close up views, nature, man-made objects, and textiles. She was influenced by growing up in Holland through World War II and her mother’s lessons on observing the world around her.

She obtained a diploma in textile design from the Reitveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1951 before immigrating to Canadian in 1966. She received a BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from the university of Calgary in 1977. While working as a costume designer, Wicherts co-founded Station Studio, Calgary’s first open studio space for printmakers. She was awarded the Immigrant of Distinction Award for the Arts in 1998 and was a member of the Alberta Society of Artists.

Wicherts’ work has been shown and collected across Canada. Her work was included in the 2017 University of Lethbridge Art Gallery show ‘Habits and Habitats’.
