Wendy Toogood
Canadian, born 1947
Born in Bristol, England, artist and educator Wendy Toogood has lived in Canada since 1952. Her work covers various media including drawing, painting, printmaking, and textiles. She graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1969 before moving to complete post-graduate work at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Toogood was an instructor in the fibre department at the Alberta College of Art and Design from 1975 to 2006. The institution awarded her the title of Lecturer Emeritus in 2009.
Toogood has received many awards for her contributions to Canadian art including the Alberta Achievement Award (1984), the Lieutenant Governor’s Award at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (1984), the Canadian Guild of Crafts’ Prize for Excellence and Outstanding Entry Award (1971), and an Alumni Award of Excellence from the Alberta College of Art and Design (2002). Toogood has participated in solo and group exhibitions across Canada, and her work is collected internationally. She has completed a number of public commissions across Western Canada.
