Remarks: LLD, RCA OSA, ARCA, CMG
A.Y. Jackson was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1882 and passed in Kleinburg, Ontario in 1974. Jackson was an original member of the Group of Seven and is widely known for his influence on Canadian art. While living in Ontario, Jackson and Tom Thomson shared an art studio.

Jackson had a strong connection to southern Alberta: his brother, Ernest, lived in Lethbridge. Jackson would often visit and began to connect with the Lethbridge community, developing friendships and contributing to the local art scene. Jackson joined the Lethbridge Sketch Club in his mid-40s and continued to paint southern Alberta for the next 20 years. He would also work in a visit to Lethbridge when working as an instructor at the Banff School of Fine Arts.
