Helen G McNicoll
Canadian, 1879 - 1915
One of the most notable female artists in Canada, Helen McNicoll achieved considerable international success during her decade-long career. Deaf from the age of two, McNicoll’s sunny paintings of rural landscapes, women and children were well-loved. She played an important role in popularizing Impressionism at a time when this style of painting was still relatively unknown in Canada. Before her early death, she was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1913 and the Royal Academy of Arts in 1914.
