Mary S. Will

Canadian, 1944 - 2021

Born in New York, Mary Will is an artist working in painting, printmaking, and ceramics. She attended the University of New Mexico (1970-71) and the University of Iowa (1964-67). Will has taught at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design and Tuscarora Pottery in Nevada. Her work explores patterns, layers, repetition, and combinations of computer-generated imagery and hand painting. Many of her works have rich, tactile surfaces as a result of this experimentation.

Collected and shown across Canada, Will’s work has been shown in a number of University of Lethbridge Art Gallery shows. These include ‘Studies: Historical and Contemporary’ (2002), ‘Mary Shannon Will’ (2004), ‘Spectramatic Geometry’ (2011), and ‘Here and There’ (2018). In 2020 the Nickle Gallery opened an exhibition of Will’s work titled ‘Mary Shannon Will: People, Places and Things’
