Seepee Ipellie was a soapstone and serpentine sculptor that began his art practice at the age of 15. He was born in Pangirtung in 1940, and after attending school in Edmonton, moved to Iqaluit where he lived for most of his life. He is well known for his carvings of musk oxen, and his green stone works that are currently in the University of Lethbridge Art Collection are primarily of animals (birds, narwhals, and a bear). His art is a part of several collections such as the Inuit Cultural Institute and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and has been in a multitude of group and solo exhibitions. In 2000, Seepee passed away.
