Born in Igalalik in 1927, Paulassie and his family moved to Kinngait, Nunavut, which his father was a part of founding. He began his career as an artist as a printmaker, but is more recognized as a sculptor. His carvings feature animals (often bears), images from Catholicism, stories, and other figures. His work has been in some of the Cape Dorset print collections, in numerous exhibitions, and can be found in the collections of the Glenbow Museum, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Inuit Cultural Institute and more. Paulassie passed away in 2006.
