Yvonne Kanayuk Arnakyuinak

Canadian, 1920 - 1998

Recognized for her large basalt sculptures, Kanayuk often depicted the theme of mother and child.

Yvonne Kanayak Arnakyuinak’s work was included in an exhibition titled, “An Inuit Perspective: Baker Lake Sculpture”, which was organized by the AGO in 2001. It was recognized at the time as the first major exhibition of visual art to be organized in collaboration with Inuit artists. The exhibition opened in both Toronto and in the community of Baker Lake/ Qamani’tuaq.

Arnakyuinak’s work is represented in the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and other important collections in Canada.
