Mary Pudlat worked in printmaking, graphic arts, and she was a seamstress. She was born near Puvirnituq, Nunavik and in her twenties moved regions to Kinngait, Nunavut. There, she became involved with the Kinngait Cooperative, where she was one of the first participants in its etching workshops, and continued working with prints included in many of the Cape Dorset Print and Graphic Collections. Her print works utilize symmetry, colour gradients, and line work evidenced in the prints in the University of Lethbridge Art Collection They depict imaginative scenes of stories, animals, and life on the land. She also published children’s literature, one book, titled Inuit Spring Time in 1966 and Lumaajuuq, which was for a daycare. Mary’s work can be found in Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Canada, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Inuit Cultural Institute, and the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art to name a few. Her works have been in numerous exhibitions as well. She passed away in 2001.
