Ann Clarke
Born in Norwich, Ann Clarke attended Slade School of Fine Art, University College in London, England and earned her Diploma of Fine Arts. She and her family relocated to Edmonton in 1968, where Clarke become a fixture of the local art community. Her artistic practice encompasses abstract painting and drawing, sculpture, installation, and printmaking. A major interest in Clarke’s work is the interaction of compositional elements and how the artist’s hand is made visible.
Clarke has taught across Canada at a number of institutions, including the Banff Centre for the Arts, the University of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Queen’s University, the University of Guelph, and Lakehead University from which she retired in 2009. She became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2008.
Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Britain, Canada, and the United States. Her paintings were included in the 1993 Southern Alberta Art Gallery exhibition “Looking Back” among other University of Lethbridge Art Gallery collection works.
